Tesco PLC and its recently launched Tesco USA division have selected Trade Dimensions, a service of The Nielsen Company, as a research partner for Tesco’s impending U.S. launch.
Tesco USA will launch its new 10,000 sq. ft. “Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Markets” in Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Phoenix and San Diego. Trade Dimensions will provide information that will allow Tesco to analyze the viability of each potential Fresh & Easy store site using data from the TDLinx Channel Database.
The TDLinx Channel Database is a repository for more than 400,000 store records, providing research partners such as Tesco with access to information on supermarkets, supercenters, convenience stores, drug stores, discount stores, wholesale clubs and other big box stores. The TDLinx Channel Database also provides information on the locations of “category killers”: large format retailers known for a narrow focus on their merchandise category and a broad selection of goods at low margins. With these data, retailers can analyze the sizes, locations and characteristics of all similar or competing businesses in the area of a planned store location, maximizing their potential for success.
“With virtually the entire U.S. retailing industry watching and waiting for Tesco’s launch in the U.S. this fall, Trade Dimensions is excited about partnering with such a well-known and respected global retailer. The fact that they chose the TDLinx Channel Database as the definitive source for location data in the U.S. speaks volumes about the reputation we have for accuracy and comprehensive coverage,” said Mario Gutierrez, Trade Dimensions Vice President of Product Management. “We know that Tesco will find great value in our data, as have thousands of other clients, and we look forward to a long, fruitful relationship.”
About Tesco
TTesco is the UK’s largest retailer and one of the world’s leading international retailers, operating over 2,800 stores across 12 countries and employing over 370,000 people. Tesco has grown from a market stall, set up by Jack Cohen in 1919. The name Tesco first appeared above a shop in London in 1929. There have been several phases of growth for Tesco and during the 1990s Tesco was successful in the UK by investing for customers and pioneering many new innovations. For example, the company launched the Clubcard loyalty scheme and Tesco.com which is now the world’s leading internet grocery store. In 1995 Tesco started to expand overseas and now operates in Ireland, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, Turkey, China, Japan, Malaysia, South Korea and Thailand.
Tesco’s success is due in part to delivering a consistently strong customer offer on every visit and every transaction and by focusing on the company’s core purpose: to create value for customers to earn their lifetime loyalty.
